so is what the ayotollas and the wahabis doing is jockeying for position? Bin Laden wants us to attack iran and the iranians probably would mind if we killed bin laden in the tribal areas by any means necessary.
PS are you sunni or shiaa? I am a not practicing Jew.

If you go back to national interest/balance of power politics as practiced up unti the very recent future, a logical policy for the US would be to clandestinely lead the sunnis and shisa to war. I guess oil mitigates against us doing that, so once alternate fuels in place and poverty escalates in oil producing regions, war seems inevitable whether we push it along or not. This is why i shied away from balance of power politics and supported the buah/blair vision for the MidEast. The alternatives to its success are all bad and now there is little chance of success anyway.
