MJ....I'm ONE of us and I'm not too crazy about us. When I see polls saying that something like 60% of the country believed there was a DIRECT link between Iraq and 9/11 it really makes me wonder what kind of ignorant people we've got electing our National Politicians. The Republican Party has been trying and succeeding in turning our National elections into referendums on very "specific" social issues like abortion rights, gun rights and gay rights to target "exactly" the people Richnorth describes as "parochial and insular". The Democrats are going to do exactly the same thing on the Immigration issue. We are going to see ads in Hispanic communities saying, "Gee...we wanted to let you come in and bring your entire family and extended family and most of your neighbors in too, but the vile Republicans think the Hispanic people are only good for slave labor." National Politics has become SO skewed and polarized that it's pretty much a death knell for any candidate to simply say what they actually think and not what their multitudes of "pollsters" tell them they HAVE to think. THAT's why John McCain is my FAVORITE candidate lately. He came out in favor of this Immigration Bill, which is probably gonna get him "creamed" in the early primaries, but he did it anyway. He THEN responded to a question about Romney's response to the Bill with, "Maybe Romney's solution will be to get out his small varmit gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn." LOL Now....THAT's a PRESIDENT...
