And four years doesn't make or prove the "dead-enders" comment wrong. What would prove it wrong would be the groups actually winning to the extent that they get exactly what they want. For example if the Baathists get a new mostly secular dictatorship with them in charge, then they were not dead enders. I suspect they actually are, but we'll see.
