the land that is currently called NWFP in Pakistan, and NE Afghanistan (around the Hindukush ranges) has never been ruled by any one from the time of Alexander the Great.

Musharraf has no way of ruling that place, and neither will any successor to that role.

In recent history, the only person I can remember, who had respect and could make his opinion respected in that region was a gentleman called Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan.

Mike that region is a haven for anyone who wants to stay away from the law. OBL and Zawahiri are no exceptions. On a map there is a line saying Afghanistan vs Pakistan. Means nothing. what counts is how many tribal friends u have to help and protect you. and how many you suspect will betray you.

To understand Afghanistan, one has to understand buzkashi.

the way to deal with the situation is to send a small team of Special Ops guys, who dress like the locals, live like the locals, and most important speak like the locals.

Lie low for a few months, make friends, and then hit when the target is identified.
