I believe the average person understands inflation is much higher than reported though he doesn't have the resources to do much about it, other than living in debt paid off with depreciated dollars (which he's conditioned to do anyway, regardless of inflation). But J6P's realization of inflation is of no consequence unless it leads to a shift in behavior.
