I beat most of the effects by putting a huge emphasis on exercise, starting with an aerobic form of yoga to regain the range of motion and then adding back in cycling, hiking, and ultimate frisbee. I can easily touch my toes, which has literally made specialists' jaws drop.

I had a setback when I got very badly hurt in a rear-ender about 5 years ago, leaving me 5 cm. shorter and ending the ultimate and carrying heavy things on my back, but my GP still considers me one of her fittest patients of any age.
