Hawala is a verbal deal. Hundi is a written deal.

With Hawala, I make a call, and money gets transferred. I pay after receiving confirmation ( a call) that money is delivered.

With Hundi, I pay in advance and get a piece of paper. When that piece of paper is presented at the other end, the person gets the money.

In both cases, there is no bank involved. Its an all cash transaction.

In the case of Hawala (eg from me to my mom), the money in cash gets delivered to my mom's address. In the case of Hundi, I would send the piece of paper to my mom, who would then go to some place and collect the money in cash.
