A good Don will always make sure there is someone capable to replace him.

A tricky business, that. Too capable, and he may get thoughts about replacing you early, if you know what I mean.

Besides, the Achilles heel of these 'family businesses' is that they are family businesses - they value blood over competence. It's rare that competent sons follow competent fathers.

That used to be the case. What you have today is multipe mobs from different ethnicities. Many warlords with no bin laden chief in charge. Kill bin laden and you might see that occur.
