Anbar succeeded in banding together against Al Qaeda with a lot of American and Iraqi government aid. One caveat to this though Nadine. I align myself with those who note that we FAILED to integrate the existing tribal infrastructure within Iraq in the first couple of years of our presence there. This, along with the disbandment of the Iraqi army, were terrible errors on our part, that failed to reflect the consequences of thrusting those factions into the hands of the Jihadists.
