"when we asked to to join our coalition against a common enemy,"

WHEN was that?????????

Believe your memory is a bit faulty on this point.

When asked to join a 'War on Terrorism' (after 9-11) Chirac's France ENTHUSIASTICALLY SIGNED UP.

(And, our C.I.A. has reported that the cooperation they have given us, the information their secret services have shared with us about Islamic radicals and terrorists around the world, is some of the *best*, most useful, and voluminous, that ANY NATION anywhere has helped us with.)

No doubt, because France has had a L-O-N-G experience with Islamic radicals and terrorists... dating from their long Colonialist involvement and their involvement in the Middle East, and in Algeria, etc., (and other former parts of their old Empire.)

What they *didn't* 'join' was the invasion and occupation of Iraq (although they did vote for the FIRST UN resolution --- authorizing vigorous and deadlined inspections for WMD).

Chirac stated at the time (tried to convince us) that occupying Iraq would be a *diversion* from the 'War on Terror', a step-backwards that would HARM THE EFFORT.

And, I believe, that point has been *abundantly* established now....
