But as for government stepping back and not providing oversight to our financial system, our food supply, traffic, our legal system and many other similar undertakings, the idea that they should be scrapped tomorrow is totally absurd.

Good arguments for sure.
Financial systems; hmmm, like they are being given oversight today? Look at our national debt.

Food Safety; That is in my mind a role the federal government must play - just like air controllers should be federal. These issue fall into a category I would call protection of the public. It is the "defense" of our country that I believe our forefathers were guaranteeing. Stop messing around in all of the world and start protecting Americans. Our food safety record is dismal! More people die every year from food borne illnesses than die from terrorism!

Traffic; Give it to the states where it belongs.

Legal system; Yes of course the Supreme Court must remain - it is the basis for checks and balances as defined by the Constitution. BUT, for the most part would you really want to be tried in a federal court?
