Obama is too light weight IMO. Edwards might, but he is too easy to morph into Kerry II.

At this point in time, the chances for a good centrist white knight to rescue either party are excellent. But none are in sight.

The irony for the Republicans is, of course, that a charismatic moderate to liberal candidate with minimal ties to Bush's policies would probably have the best chance to keep the Republicans in the White House beyond January 2009.

But the party faithful themselves wouldn't stand for it.

Ah, but will those two things happen? There's accumulating evidence that troop levels will be reduced significantly enough in time for the election to make a difference. And gas prices have been known to drop mysteriously before elections, too.
