<<"Conservative estimates place increases in infant mortality following the 2003 invasion of Iraq at 37 percent," >>

That could be due to better record keeping.

<<and more than one-fifth (21 percent) are severely or moderately stunted" as a result of malnutrition, the study found.....">>

Stunting caused by malnutrition usually happens because of malnutrition at an early age. It will be interesting to see if the stunting ratio changes for children born after 2003.

I simply don't believe reports put out by these left-wing organizations. The Iraq that was found in 2003 was vastly more broken and dilapidated than had been supposed; only Baghdad got reliable services, for instance; and that was before the effects of the insurgency. It's child's play to take some estimate that was put out in 2002 - guesses from a police state - and then inflate the current numbers, just as they inflate the casualties of the present conflict - and claim it's the worst ever, etc, etc.

The whole purpose of this report is to a) oppose the war and b) to make America, and America only, the responsible party. Since according to the multi-culti ethos Al Qaeda and al Sadr cannot be responsible for the people they kill. Only America is to blame.

"The infant mortality rate in Iraq ... since 1990

Don't you remember the prewar anti-sanctions propaganda saying the US enforced sanctions were killing 50,000 Iraqi babies a year? Everyone in the ME believed it, all liberals in the west believed it, its one of the reasons Osama gave for his fatwa calling on Muslims to kill Americans.

And arguably it was one more reason to remove Saddam, who was the primary danger to Iraqi children all along.
