You think we're stealing 100-300K bpd and keeping it quiet?

I imagine some amount is stolen by crooks (usually on the payroll) and trucked off for private sale. That happens everywhere in the world - even here, though its tougher here.

.. the possibility that Iraq has been consistently overstating its oil production

Some of that may be happening too.

All of this is a distraction from the issue of occupation.

WR,

100,000 to 300,000 barrels of oil a day unaccounted for in Iraq

Oh.. so now the Americans are "stealing" Iraqi oil, are we?

Geezus weeps!!.. how little you know about the Iraqi people and the culture of smuggling that has ALWAYS pervaded certain segments of that society. Fallujah and Ramadi was notorius for oil smuggling to both Jordan and Syria. The Saudis hardly need oil smuggled in. But the Jordanians and Syrians are ALWAYS hurting for oil, having so little of it themselves and oil smuggling in the Anbar province has been a lucrative enterprise for decades, even under Saddam.

If the USA were stealing oil, we wouldn't be smuggling out a mere 100,000 bbd; we would be buying ALL the oil for $10 a barrel because the government of Iraq had "agreed" to sell it to us.

And if we WERE an empire, this scheme would have been in effect since 2003.

The fact that it isn't, shows that we are NOT collecting tribute.

Ever heard of Occam's Razor? Stop devising all these Ptolemaic epicycles to explain how the US just has to be empire despite the evidence that it ain't acting like one.

Somebody is stealing oil. Why not us? It's our country now. Just divert the oil to Saudi Arabia. We're not talking about honest people here; we are talking the Shrubistas. Anything and everything is possible. Except an adherence to the Constitution and honesty.

The above is entirely inappropriate on this thread.

1. Suggesting we are thieves is not appropriate. We may negotiate and get a much lower price, but thats not being a thief.

2. Iraq is not our country - they have a government they elected, and it is a sovereign country, not the 51st state of the US.

3. Discussing honesty of an administration is out of bounds - especially when coupled with "Shrubistas", "except an adherance to the Constitution".

Please tone down the rhetoric in future. The comments above do not add any value to a meaningful discussion.
