true - its too soon. before reaching any conclusions, I would check into the influence Hosni Mubarrak had on this situation - he aint no saint.

It is probably too early to get too excited but....The recent season of "24" started out with such a reformed terrorist trying to reach accomodation with the US. On TV it ended badly.
For the US such a shift in radical islam could mean one day negotiating with people with quite a lot of blood on their hands. Also they could be the same wahabis/salafists/shiaa radicals that would still impose an islamic state with some measures that we would would judge harshly. In the past, you have spoken eloquently about democracy et al. How do you feel dealing with the new Taliban without the terror but with the implicit terror of sharia law? Mike
