There was a Hizbullah raid, which killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2. The 2 are still being held, if they're even still alive.

How many lives were lost in the war? About 1500 plus or minus.
Was it worth it? That's always a judgement call on what else would have happened. But inconclusive wars are rarely 'worth it'.

We all know the negative side for Lebanon and Israel. On the plus side, Hizbullah is no longer sitting right on the border, and the Lebanese, many of whom seemed to be siding with Hizbullah in hysteria last summer, have had time to cool down and place the blame where it lies, with Hizbullah, which has revealed itself as nothing but a tool of Syria and Iran, with no thought for the good of Lebanon. Check out Lebanese blogs like Perpetual Refugee for a sample.
