"Personally, I think in the US that is what distingishes between liberals and conservsatives. A willingness and ability to change ones mind when new information is presented e.g. evolution and global warming."

most Americans are political midgets & do not fully comprehend the political beast. 95% of Americans are caught up in rhetoric of the definition 'liberals' & 'conservatives', but do not understand the reality of today's standards/ values in regards to the 'venturesome' corporate morphing of our governmental stewardship. the "US National Debt Clock" is ticking away brillig.com
(a few months ago, I saw Robert Novak <a disingenuous news pundit> address his audience quoting that the current administration's prolific spending <as in, conservative> is out of whack but if the liberals where in charge it would be worst). it is odd that while 'conservatives' typically run as 'anti- government' they are so willing to saddle their citizenry with the responsibility of increased public debt (someone will have to pay). in addition, the problematics of citizenry 'well being' is made more so with the private sectors increased personal debt...that being the 'savings/ to debt' ratio, which is now less than $0.
the next few months/ or years there will be a challenges in the citizenries willingness to pay for the increased demands/ costs of daily life (the US$ is getting hosed again by bush). maybe the definitions of 'liberal' & 'conservative' will then become 'de facto'. the discussion will be much less when the populace will begin demanding relief from the overbearing corporate state system & not given to the soon- to- be follies (like bush's latest proposals of fixing global warming) or idle rhetoric of evolution...all to be made much more unfordable, much less fixable.
it is the price of complicity/ of ignorance.
