He became a democrat afer his loss last year. And evangelicals very seldom vote for liberals, less than 10%. Our congress has divded itself along ideological lines. The most conservative democrat running for president is more liberal than the most liberal republican. Two populations with no overlap. Re dems being big spenders, what a myth! In 1980 when reagan took over form Carter we were running 50 billion a year deficits. Reagan, using Arthur Laffer's supply side economics (since disproven as a viable economic equaltion) did two things immediaetly: 1) he cut taxes on the rich by 100 billion and 2) he raised defense spending by 100 billion. Reagan then ran 250 billion dollar deficits for all 8 years (supply side economics said revenue would increase and reduce debt---it never did). Bush 41 then ran with the Reagan program and continued on with the 250 billion deficits a year. In just 12 years Reagan and bush added 3 trillion to our debt our kids will have to pay off. Clinton then ran surpluses by raising taxes, which Lil bush immediately gave to his rich friends as huge tax cuts for 1/10 of 1 percent of the wealthiest people in the country---first act he did---almost one trillion dollars. And look at how big GW's deficits have been. PS cheney said" Reagan taught us deficits do not matter". The US is a polorized country based on two different cultures and statistically this can be proven. A simple t test would show a rejection of the null hypothesis that the difference between conservatives and liberals is random. It is casued by liberals basically being existential in nature and conservatives being traditionalists---conservative--to conservae the culture, as is. As the south's mores, and norms control the country we keep electing backward thinking people, not orward thinking people.
