Nanotecnology seems to be moving in many different directions, including the ones to which you linked. Some of the possibilities in the field look pretty exciting.

The referenced heat-driven acoustic generator is pretty low-tech, compared to nanotechnology. It looks like it would be fairly robust, and cheap.

One can visualize a succession of cooling solutions in future, each making a more granular contribution to system cooling (and processing) efficiency.
