I didn't follow it that closely at the time. I recall thinking that using air power to stop the brutal advance of the Serbs was warranted, even if it only gave the other side a chance to flee to safety and regroup. It's clear now, however, that whoever made that decision had a deep understanding of the realities and a good grasp of what could, or could not, have been done there. As hard as some people try to draw parallels, the one undeniable fact is that the planners of the Kosovo intervention were proven right by reality and in the eyes of the world and the planners of the Iraq intervention were proven wrong.
