re: These guys were smart, strong people but when they got to Europe they fell apart like they were made of straw. I ended up having to hold their hands all through the trip. It was a real drag.

Heard about the same thing happening to a friends kid. Had a miserable time. I don't get it.

I travel with my wife who is a real trooper. She wears me out.

I've always found a phrasebook to be invaluable. Foreigners really appreciate if you try to communicate in their language, and try to be genuinely helpful. Also, that makes you an UNUSUAL and INTERESTING American.

If Ten found Europe funky, he should try some of the latin third-world countries I've traveled through! Motels with no running water, no electricity and outhouses..
