"If Ten found Europe funky, he should try some of the latin third-world countries I've traveled through! Motels with no running water, no electricity and outhouses.."

Never been to Latin America. I have this persistent dream that I step off the plane the day the revolution starts. There is a report on the 6 o'clock news about touristas being captured, and there I am, with a camera around my neck and in handcuffs...

Chris, > Foreigners really appreciate if you try to communicate in their language, and try to be genuinely helpful.

The only danger is that they'll assume you are fluent or even semi-fluent in their native language, and then you'll be stuck having to ask them to slowly repeat themselves (or in the universal "sign language").

Happened to me several times in Paris.
