But it is interesting how Putin tried to claim that a "defensive" system somehow possed a threat against Russia being. What's the difference having it placed in Europe, or in Azerbijian?

Couple of points re the above :

- any missile 'defence' system has to include missiles that can shoot down other missiles. Russias concern on a US only system in Europe could (validly) be that some day these might become offensive weapons against Russia.

- The difference between Europe and Azerbaijan is that President Putin is proposing a joint effort between US & Russia to have such a system. A typical - I'll watch you, whilst you watch me scenario.

Simple: Azerbaijan is Russia's first line of defense against both Pakistan and Iran --especially once the latter becomes a nuclear power....

The whole hoopla about a new "Cold War" between Russia and the West is BOGUS --it's a fraud. Yet, it's a very useful, cunning fraud to the extent that it falsely casts Russia as a potential ally for third-world wannabes that might otherwise fall into China's orbit (of influence). As I once put it, the US has got two pets --the British poodle and the Russian chaw....
