The way i am looking at Iran today is as follows:

Is iran the mastermind for most of the violence going on today in the arab world from syria to lebanon, from hizbolla to hamas, from shiaa militias to al queada in iraq. Are they also supporting the resurgent taliban? Are they moving toward nuclear weaponry. If the answer to all of these is yes, how do we not take action to stop them? Same question and answer for israel as well. I think you have had a different take on this and I am looking to avoid war here as well, but there does come a point when ones national interest is threatened. Where do you think we are with iran right now using the above as context?
Also i think it is likely that bush believes the above points. If so, will he act or is he too tied up in iraq or too reticent of criticism at this stage of his presidency. I think something to look at in this regard is how he handles the Scooter Libby going to jail scenario. If he pardons him, it signals disregard for polls, what congress thinks etc. He will be doing what he believes is right. If he pardons libby or commutes his sentence, i think this increases the possiblity that an iran air attack is on the table.

<the answer is Education> That is my view as well. I cannot imagine any viable long term solution without education as a cornerstone. When we demote education and rachet up the hate talk, as we have done these last several years, we teach the world that America is the evil empire. When we promote education and use military force more wisely we have the capacity to provide global leadership.
