If you want to pay $3 for an apple fine.

I grow mine.

I think I understand your concept. Throw them all out and let them stand in line and come through legally. That is if you really do agree that immigrants are important?

When they get here pay them the prevailing wage. What shall that be?

What should we pay a newly confirmed American citizen for picking fruits and vegetables? You know.........the ones you see in the produce section at your local designer grocery store. Those products don't just fly off the trees or dig themselves out of the ground.

And what are the requirements for becoming a citizen, and how long should that take, and how much is it going to cost me and you and the rest of us legal citizens?

These are the questions our elected officials are grappling with. So far most Americans do not like their solutions. I know I certainly don't have all the answers, but I'd sure be interested in hearing yours.

TIA

I almost can't believe what I'm hearing. What we're discussing almost sounds like slavery to me. Are they willing to do the work? Sure they are. That doesn't mean we should take advantage of them.

Its not slavery, its voluntary and paid. Its not even really taking advantage of them. They take the job because they are better off for it. In other words doing so benefits them.

None of which says anything about whether offering them the job depresses wage rates, or says much about the general issue of immigration, but at the very least the illegal immigrant does benefit from being in the US and having the chance to take the job, even if it is low paid by American standards.
