Well, the kind of singing Potts does is very different from the natural ability of Connie Talbot. Many people are born with the ability to sing, some are born with perfect pitch (which actually is sort of a parlor trick. Some theorize that we are all born with it, but without reinforcement it dies away.)

Interestingly, vibrato is usual in a young voice. It's often an affectation, which makes me wonder about her teaching. She DOES have an extraordinary ear, that's evident. She made me think of Charlotte Church, whom I never heard in her early years and I wonder if there are similarities? Charlotte was one of those phenom young voices, but she began to train classically very early.

Potts and Talbot offer different versions of the same enchantment. All that emotional appeal. I sure wouldn't want to choose between the two.

(And I have known some voices who trained reallllly hard, and they still made me cringe.)
