Yes, I get that, which is why I'm trying to differentiate.

I, too, have found myself in questionable company on lots of issues. For example, I share opposition to affirmative action, hate crime laws, and amnesty with lots of bigots and that makes me very uncomfortable. Although I can easily differentiate my position from theirs, it's uncomfortable knowing that the black and whiters tar us all with the same brush. Which is why I engage the black-and-whiters from time to time when they bring out the broad brushes.

Yes, he should speak on this subject.

Unfortunately, we get few thoughtful essays from candidates. Our system can't deal with anything but sound bites. In the meantime, I'm not prepared to dump Paul into the "b-A-f'rs" camp until he puts that particular foot in his own mouth.
