If you haven't read Chomsky, and haven't come into contact with those who read and idolize him and are influenced by him (and there are many thousands of them)... Chomsky makes a great target for rage against the lefties, but your estimate of "many thousands," while probably intended to convey the notion of a scary number, instead shows his relative lack of relevance. I'd be amazed if one percent of the US population had ever heard of him. Sure, he's revered by "many thousands" of "intellectuals" and he has powerful influence in certain circles, but he's hardly a popular influence. IMO, his prime utility is in providing a handy bogeyman for the anti-intellectual and anti-leftie sets.
