I have no idea what the motivation was and neither do you. It could have been without ill intentions. It seem to me that if it had been done with ill intentions, it would have been more judgmental and included more charged words. In light of Lebanon's history, that s/b considered a positive, not a negative. You have proved my point. The items on the list were not all negatives, certainly not from your perspective or mine. But that wasn't the point of the list. It's a list of grievances, which means it is framed from the perspective of how they were viewed by "their" perspective. "Why do they hate us" is the title of the piece. From "their" perspective, the items on the list are all negative. Does the list mention that the US has been the primary promotor of efforts to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict peacefully? Of course it doesn't. There's no grievance in that. Duh! You seem to be trying to make the list into something you'd like to see listed, like all the positive things we've done in that part of the world. But that's a different list with a different title for a different purpose. If you want to know why they hate us, what you need is a list of grievances from their perspective and that's what you got. So your only objections can be either that such a list was created in the first place or that it has been used by those who are critical of our role in that part of the world. The former would be a wish to play ostrich. You can't analyze the enemy without looking at the enemy's perceived grievances. To refuse to do so is not rational. As for how people use the list, that isn't under the control of the list maker. If people want to use it to place blame, that would be their distortion, not a fault of the list.
