In US and use Interactive Brokers for Canadians, cheap.
Also, have and Ameritrade account and trade Canadians $8.

I believe only some smaller securities (Canadian stocks) are charged this fee. I've had it on a couple of Canadian stocks and other foreign stocks. I do not think it is across the board at Fidelity. I do not know how to determine which stocks fall into this bucket - it would be good to know. I would call FIDO international desk and ask them.
