The melting of steel is pure idiocy as an argument. The typical approach to fire protection in buildings is to coat beams with a material that delays the transfer of heat to the metal. The key is to remove the heat source before the protection fails.

Strength of materials is a direct function of temperature.

The fact that this issue is even being discussed is ludicrous.
