I am not expert in this, but isnt it true most of our problems in Iraq have come from IED's and suicide bombers, whereas at least up till now the Afghani's have considered that a sort of cowardly way of fighting and havent YET gotten into that in a big way (although seems to be headed that direction).

JD,
The Afghanis are quite capable of nasty fighting techniques. Let's not forget they skinned alive many a Russian soldier they captured.

My view of IEDs is they are merely an ambush weapon. A weapon that was developed to exploit seams in our tactics. The first weapon used against Hummers was the rifle. We hardened the sides making that ineffective and they went to a "Bigger" gun. We should give credit to the developers. The next step is ours. We must, accept the casualty rate, develop a vehicle that can withstand an IED hit or quit using vehicles. The reason we don't see more IEDs in Afghan is because of a lack of targets. The technology and IED material is there. Ditto for suicide bombers. They are in Afghan too. But we do not have US Troops driving all over Afghan cities in Hummers.

We are seeing a concentration of AQ effort in Iraq because of the number of available targets. AQ is fighting heavily in Iraq because we present more targets there.

Again, I refer to the book The Quaranic concept of War. What we are seeing follows the concept. We should never forget They want to fight. They started this fight. They came to fight. We have done nothing yet to dissuade them from following their plan to continue to fight.
