We are seeing a concentration of AQ effort in Iraq because of the number of available targets True, but it is also the proximity to ME oil supplies and the strategic position in the Arab world. If AQ wins control over all or part of Iraq - like Hamas just won the Gaza area - they would become important big hot shots. Rulers of nearby nations could no longer afford to bribe them... might have to submit.
