What 'invasion of Iraq'?

(Have the Saudis and Iranians started moving their regular armies in to fight for control yet? Are the Sunni and Shiite power blocs fully engaging each other yet?)

Many of us have proposed for some time that we get our troops out of the middle of the Country and out of Baghdad. Then we can deal (if we choose as a matter of our national interest) to focus on the issues you raise.

Lugar's point (and it is important) is that this whole mess, from inception in 2001 through the terrible post-war administration, failure to grasp the realities of the culture, religion, history, etc. evidences terrible planning.

Isn't everybody tired of hearing the Administration say once again: "nobody could have foreseen....".

Time to foresee either our pullback and change of focus, or our gradual withdrawal, or other strategic and tactical steps....but we have to learn to plan beyond the Surge!!

The Surge will end! What's next!

As for the tired story about the "infant Iraqi army". Gosh, it has now been four years in development. That is not an "infant". A military force can be trained in less than four years. Heck, Uncle Sam claimed I was trained in six weeks....
