I am a believer that there is a centrist position on abortion out there that most americans would agree on if only to remove abortion as a national litmus test for both parties.
Anyone who has seen an ultrasound or a later term abortion knows exactly what i am talking about. Things like increased use of contraception and morning after pills, even if they dont prevent conception can be used along with bans on later term abortions and a more potent adoption effort. Bulk of americans would buy into this type of compromise.

"Certain topics like religion or abortion etc (which never have 2 sides agreeing) are not OK - because there is no discussion..."

When adherents of a certain religion conduct their collective lives with an intentional campaign to destroy those who do not worship as they do it becomes one of the most important topics for discussion of foreign affairs.

I am not thinking of discourse about theology, but about the behaviors of the members of various sects.
