Bush commutes Libby's prison sentence

By Jay Tea on Justice
Wizbang

President Bush has just commuted the prison term portion of "Scooter" Libby's sentence for perjury and obstruction of justice.

The remainder of Libby's sentence -- the $250,000 fine and two years probation -- remains in effect, but Libby will not be spending any time behind bars.

I must confess that I'm a surprised he did this.

I'm disappointed he did not issue a pardon.

Me too. Libby was not going to jail right away...I'd have figured he would have let it play out a bit more....

The feigned shock, dismay and indignation of the dems is a bit much however.....given that just a few short years ago they supported lying under oath by one of their own.....Schumer makes me want to vomit....

I must confess that I'm a surprised he did this.

The WH strategy was probably something like:

By commuting the sentence we don't override the jury verdict of guilty whereas a pardon would.

Down the rode in January '09 we'll pardon him and clean his record.
