Ted, > And here I thought going to Europe would open you up to new possibilities...........

It opened up my eyes all right. Lots of good things, but also lots of not so good things. So many people who criticize America here think the grass is greener on the other side of the pond. I had to fly over there to see for myself that it's nowhere close to ideal as portrayed.

I criticize America because there are some very wrong things in this country.......high on that list is electing a man like Bush who starts wars the way other people go out to dinner. I know that Europe is not perfect but it has some very good things that we would be smart to adopt.....and its not just walking more and driving less.

I do think we as a society can afford to walk more and drive less, though. But adopting French-style socialism would be a mistake.

Apparently French citizens think so as well, or else they wouldn't have elected Sarkozy. I got a photo of that guy going down Champs-Elysees, you know. (I thought I had said that already in one of my old posts from Europe.)

Sarkozy is the latest in a long line of conservatives elected to office in France; that's right......Chirac was a conservative too. Don't you remember......he didn't want Muslim women covering their heads in public buildings and passed a law to that effect.......helping to lead to the riots of last year. That level of intolerance is the signature of a rightie, not a leftie.

And remember when I told Tim that we are right of center.......European conservatives are much more liberal than their American counterparts. My friend, Thorsten, is a German conservative but we both share the same social and economic values. For an example, he would be the last person to recommend dismantling what GOPers love calling Germany's welfare state. He's not stupid.......the so called welfare state works well for the average citizen. Germans live longer than their American counterparts.....are healthier later in life and are more comfortable. Stupid Americans..........the money that could be used to make our lifestyle less stressful goes into the pockets of idiots like the Hiltons. Why? Because of good ole GOPers whining 24/7. Its sickening how short sighted you all are.
