would we have done anything different if a similar conflict was on our borders ? Heck, we've done it even when it was half a world away....

Don't think that this will be the only time....My guess is that you have been right more than you know.

Nice to finally find my perspective justified.

Blaming Iran for the problems that we caused in Iraq does not vindicate your promotion of this war. It was and is pure hubris on your part to believe that we could accomplish anything of value in Iraq via a unilateral invasion. Iran did not destabilize Iraq -- the US is solely responsible for that. Does Iran benefit from the destruction of Iraq -- of course it does. But Iran did not launch this war, even if they quietly cheered us on from the sidelines. We did what they could not do - destroy Iraq. Having done our best to set the stage for chaos in Iraq, Iran will and no doubt has inevitably taken advantage of our stupidity -- but to point to Iran as the source of our problems is nonsense. The invasion of Iraq was about as misguided and poorly timed as any action we could have taken. If Iran benefits from this we are sounding a hollow note when diehard fans of our invasion, like yourself, try to point the finger at them.
