think that any war with China would be "conventional?"

The only scenaro that makes any sense is an attempted invasion of Tiawan by China. Both sides would avoid going nuclear.

It's an excuse by the Military on both sides to justify a lot of spending.

What would cause Barnett or any in the military to think that any war with China would be "conventional?"

China is spending as fast as they can to build the world's most powerful conventional armed forces.

China's internal security tactics and techniques are so married to the leadership at every level the success of a "new" insurgency there is highly doubtful.

China is building to be our biggest threat. My personal thoughts are that a US/China armed conflict is inevitable. It will likely go nuclear quickly because of the number of people. I cannot envision either country submitting before being devastated.

Unlike many others, I don't believe Taiwan will be the catalyst for this war. I don't think our congress is that stupid. But I admit in the past, they have surprised in that regard.

If I could bet on it, I'd bet that increasing economic pressure builds a hostile environment, followed by escalating military confrontations that lead to all out warfare.

I also believe that we have begun preparing for this conflict.
