There is no such thing as ‘just literal’ since the wisdom of religious scripture regards circumstance, circumstance which is unique from moment to moment, individual to individual, group to group, and from one time to another. Any literal reading must be taken in context of circumstance and principle. When principles of faith are violated, it should be clear that the religion is being abused, for the sake of agendas. Your willingness to validate extremist views in essence reveals the extent to which you are one of them. ”A God who is perfectly Merciful and Beneficent does not create messages directing us to brutalize and terrorize one another into submission, that would be an obvious contradiction at the foundation of faith and practice. Islam is not a message/cookbook on terrorism.” The phrase, ‘Just a literal reading’ is where your hamartia lies and how you have validated the corruption of religions, while in essence joining the corrupt as it serves your agenda. It is obviously, or should be obviously defective when it contradicts the underlying principle and the wholeness of the message. Existence is not a text book, it is a moment by moment circumstance that is an individual struggle to choose, to choose a beneficent path over a singularly self serving one. Scripture are provided to guide us in principles of life that are righteous and good, not in annihilating the competition. The extent to which you disagree with that is the extent of your extremism.
