Long rates could and should rise while the fed drops short term rates. Financial institutions need a steepening of the yield curve to make a profit the old fashioned way<g>

Open up your Econ 101 textbook. It's called reflation. How it helps is that it increases economic growth in the short-term. Whether you think it's good in the long run is philosophical and as everyone knows, I'm no philosopher.
