I've dealt with that in my reply to Lane3.

A brief recap:

Historically, its the desire to avoid foreign war that has driven isolatioinism, not trade issues.

Further on the trade issue, though Paul is in theory free trade, his opposition to free trade agreements would result in far less trade if his ideas were implemented. So I consider him free trade in theory, not in fact.
