Sounds like you didn't cover them - the temperature was too low for an hour of simmering.

You had them just the way we did - with boxed mashed potatoes.

Everyone has a different palate - to me, it's comfort food and delicious. I hope you used Campbell's condensed mushroom soup - my wife insists on it because it tastes better than anything else.

No, we hold no stock in Campbell's.

As for mess, all we ended up with was a frying pan with cover and a small bowl we used for the mashed potatoes. Plus, of course, the dishes and utensils we used and ate from. Hardly even a quarter dishwasher load.

I have a cluttered kitchen - too little storage and too much stuff - but it is always clean. We have learned a long time ago that clean - as - you - go is better than once - a - day cleaning. Like where would I put the sprouts we grow if it isn't in a foot-high round container next to the sink? That way we remember to water them twice a day. (Love to add sprouts to the pita's we fix for lunch with sliced meats, cheese and tomato - don't forget the mayo - and we heat them in the Xpress 101 cooker tucked neatly behind the sprouts grower).

And I like cooking with soy sauce also! (Teriyaki is nothing but soy sauce with some sugar and perhaps some wine in it: en.wikipedia.org ) Apparently the word actually means "shiny grilling" and is not really associated with the liquid itself - it is we in the Western cultures who have made that association with what we call Teriyaki sauce (or perhaps some enterprising Japanese made up the sauce for us).
