Re: Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) has introduced legislation to ease U.S. restrictions that prevent dealing with Cuba to drill in the Florida Straits.

An excellent idea!

(The US trade embargo is only hurting the US... not Castro. We lose *billions* in agricultural exports alone, and it could be OUR OIL COMPANIES doing much of the drilling in Cuban waters.)

Only the importance of the Cuban exile's votes in Florida, and GOP politics, keeps our firms from directly benefiting.

Re: almost within sight of Key West, Florida....

(Oh, you mean in *Cuban territorial waters*. :-)

Re: There are new reports out circulating that Chinese firms are planning to slant drill off the Cuban coast near the Florida Straits, tapping into U.S. oil reserves....

Consider the source of these undocumented 'rumors', for these not-yet-even-started developments... (and... just WHO stands to benefit from starting rumors like this?)

Actually, were Cuba or China so *idiotic* as to actually 'slant drill' into our economic zones then the US would be legally justified under International Treaty to attach the rig.

(We could simply sail up with a flotilla and board the rig and then either shut it down, or divert the oil for our own uses... if it actually *was* being pumped from our territorial waters.)

Cuba and or China would have to be more then medium-stupid to set themselves up for an outcome THAT disadvantageous to their interests! :-)

Ain't gonna happen! (This is some Texas oil man's wet dream / manufactured spin aimed at influencing --- ending, I'd wager, the US' foolish economic embargo on Cuba. A goal, by the way, that I'd be fully in agreement with that American oil man, or American farmer, on.)
