In this case it is "hope" because I "want" the better outcome. I would most likely bet against it. That said, one has to wonder if a nation can be this stupid for as long as they have been. Any Pal with a functional brain can figure out a strategy for victory, if victory is defined as a peaceful and prosperous Pal state living next to a peaceful and prosperous Israel. Why can't they collectively go out and achieve this? BTW, I can freely admit that there are elements in Israel who don't want this outcome, and may well fight it, even including Jewish terrorism to prevent such an outcome. But, I'm also 100% sure that such obstruction would not succeed. The power lies entirely within the grasp of the Pals. The same is not true for the Jews. The power to achieve peace based only on Jewish actions in the ME is non-existant. In this sense, the situation is just as asymmetric as the military balance of power. How odd that the side with overwhelming military might CANNOT achieve peace on its own, whereas the weak side could.

What is even more ironic is that the Pals could achieve a moral victory over Israel if they did it right. Since part of their problem is clearly linked to honor, why not win a moral victory over your "enemy" on the world stage? They could if they tried. Unfortunately for them, the only honor they can see is one involving victory via a gun barrel. Anything else is not honorable.

Imagine a starving man under a fruit tree with a very tempting piece of fruit too high to jump and reach. There is a ladder standing nearby, yet the man just wears himself out jumping and coming up short. That is what the Pals have been doing all these years.
