In their heart of hearts arab grievances are against the colonial powers for colonialism itself. Israel has been selected as scapegoat for all that has gone wrong both in colonial and post colonial times. Few arabs, even today, wake each morning with the burning desire to defeat israel or to hate jews. The whole idea of refugee camps were kept in place to focus arab people attention away from their failed and corrupt regimes and on the newly crowned colonial power in the region. little israel. Few arabs were embarrassed at subjugation to the euros and turks who were far larger and more powerful. But now they have mini israel as the ogre who defeats them and thwarts their ambitions at every turn. Now thats embarrassing and thats what its all about--pride and prejudice. Israel never wanted to do more than live in peace in that region. They are guilty of being naive.

I'm not sure how you can square the above with all the military and financial assistance we've given Israel. How do you square those things?

It's not easy to answer that in one sentence. To answer that you actually need to know the circumstances of the various Mideast crises and wars. Try reading about the Israeli War of Independence, the Suez Crisis, the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and the First Lebanese war in 1982 and you will find the answer.

BTW, you keep on about how the Arabs are "indigenous", which is a favorite line of the Arabs. The Arabs are indigenous to Arabia, which is only a small part of the Mideast. There are many other peoples of the Mideast who were there long before the Arabs, who aren't so fond of it. Where are the Jews indigenous to?
