But at what cost?
Some extra home runs?
You're in an arms race. As long as lots of people will pay serious money to see these guys break records, the club owners will pay them big bucks to take illegal, undetectable-as-yet drugs to do it and many of them will go for those bucks. Wanna know who to blame? Get a mirror. I can enter an honest not-guilty plea because I have never been to a ball game or watched one on TV. NOTHING is more boring than baseball.

From my own experience I've been told by numerous doctors that taking even low dose steroids (Prednisone or Medrol) was extremely harmful.
There is lower dose stuff than prednisone around.

So much so that several doctors refused to write prescriptions for it even though it was the only medication that provided some relief from the pain & inflammation from my arthritis & DISH. It took me more than 2 years of fighting tooth & nail for it & trying every other type of medication in the book (all of which did little or nothing) before they caved in & allowed me to take it on a regular basis.
From personal experience, I have to advice extreme caution with prednisone. It does a very good job of suppressing your immune system, leaving you open to all those buggies that want to eat you. You generally don;t realize the danger until yout into it.

See what they think about a lower dose, using it on again, off again, or one of the brands of "prednisone light".

I refuse to take prednisone any more.
