I am more interested in getting at what Jesus said, meant and did. Not Paul's version, as Paul claims to have never met Jesus during his lifetime. And not the items scribbled in by later copyists. Several things have become clear when looking at the scriptures: 1. Peter and Paul did not get along at all. 2. Paul was very contemptuous of not only Peter, but James and John. James called him to Jerusalem and administered the slapdown. But after James was murdered, Paul seems to have gotten wilder and wilder in his writings. 3. There was a conscious effort by the writers of the canon to diminish the family of Jesus. Odd then that Mary became so much a part of Roman Catholicism, the largest of the later orthodox churches. 4. I would love to read letters or books by the actual apostles, but the only one that exists is probably Jude. 5. Some of the letters are very contrary to the teachings of Jesus. Most notably, the 3 T pastoral letters. 6. I seem to always be picking on Paul, but he had his letters messed with, too. Either that, or he's schizophrenic. Most of the anti-female rhetoric is contained in letters where he has already told his converts to listen and follow Chloe's instructions. And when he has commended Prisca as an apostle. And, after he has claimed Junia as the greatest apostle. 7. Paul never mentions the virgin birth. That is one of those things I would mention, because it is kind of spectacular. Anyway, I'm going to keep reading and studying, but the words and not archaeology.
