That engine should have at least another 150K left before anything big occurs. Assuming you regular with your oil and filter changes.

Last year I traded a '97 Acura RL for $8500, which was more than blue book, but I'm still sad about it. Best car I ever had.

My custom is to trade when the first thing goes wrong. I know that may not be the best approach financially and you're smart to do what you're doing, but I don't want to have to deal with something happening unexpectedly. I'm very hassle averse so I'm willing to pay for a new car. My experience has been that once something goes, it's just one thing after another.

My car had something like 34K miles on it and had only one small blemish. The dealer low balled me and I balked. I was walking until he went back to the garage and found the mechanics were all vying to get the car for themselves. He caved.
