KT,

I hope all the records are turned over ASAP. I would like to know what really happened too.

Personally, I find it hard to hold these lawyers in high regard because of the unique nature of this situation.

The issue here is child abuse and covering it up.

IMO, these are the things you want to accomplish here.

1. Compensate the victims

2. Punish the church in a way that sends a clear message that sexual abuse and covering it up will not be tolerated.

Lawsuits like these are often directed at corporations that knowingly sold unsafe products, CEOs, CFOs, and shareholders that cheated on the financial statements, stole money, traded on inside information etc... So a ton of money comes out of the hide of those that actually did something wrong and/or directors/shareholders that are indirectly responsible for employing them etc...

In these cases, the money is coming out of the hide of the Archdiocese and not the priests, pastors, bishops etc... that are guilty. Furthermore, the parisheners that made the donations that lead to that accumulated wealth obviously did nothing wrong. So taking money from their parishes means they are now a victim again. So are the poor and the programs that would be on the receiving end of that money if it wasn't taken.

Finally, over 200 million dollars for the lawyers is pretty much disgusting.

I don't know anything about the individual lawyers in this case, but I would feel a lot better about this if you told me they were all very religious Catholics that did this because of their love of the church and then donated a chunk of it to some program for the poor.

As it is now, I see them as the same low life pond scum that most trial lawyers are. Enriching themselves at outrageous rates at the expenses of victims, uncaring about the victims, and willing to say or do anything to maximize their personal gain. Plus, in this case, their intent could be even worse because the church has so many enemies.
